Let's Make "Off" Really Mean Off

Welcome to OffShouldMeanOff.com!

Find out how much power your devices use when turned off. OffShouldMeanOff aims to be the primary resource for device power ratings when said devices are supposedly "powered off". Our goal is to provide previously unknown information to the consumer so they can make purchases that will benefit them -- and the world -- in the long run.

Why? When we power our devices off, we think that the device stops using electricity, or at least the large majority of it. Unfortunately, today, this is not true. Even though devices are "powered off", and provide little or no function, they still needlessly waste electricity.

The U.S. Department of Energy estimates that in the average home, 40% of all electricity used to power home electronics is consumed while the products are turned off. Add all that up, and it equals the annual output of 17 power plants, the government says. (source)

We want to make a difference. By providing this information to you, the consumer, we hope to help you choose products that will save you money.

As our database grows, we also hope to influence the manufacturers whose devices still use needless amounts of electricity when powered off. Imagine the impact this could have on the world's energy consumption!

How can I help? It's simple. If you are considering purchasing a certain product, first look it up in our database. If you cannot find the product you are looking for, you can make a request for it in our forums.

The best way you can help us is to submit a device power rating. Without you, we are just another website!
